Reservoir Dogs page 2
Okay, first off...

PHILISTINE- a crass prosiac often priggish individual guided by material rather than artistic value.

That was meant to describe me and the millions of other people who just happen to have made the mistake of liking Quentin Tarantino's awesome cult crime drama, "Reservoir Dogs".

Now let's take a look at some words that would describe a person such as yourself.

CONCIETED- Having an excessively high opinion of one's self.

ARROGANT- Exaggerating one's own worth or importance in an over bearing manner.

I felt that these words seem to fit you pretty well because you seem to feel that your opinion is the only one that counts. You hold a different opinion than me on "Reservior Dogs", and that's fine, I respect that. And maybe I came across as being a little strong in my first message to you because "Reservoir Dogs" happens to be one of my favorite movies. But I think your "Never question my view" look at things is pretty sad. It seems that you're saying your opinion is more important than anyone elses and that anyone who disagrees with you is an idiot, or a Philistine, as you put it. Well excuse me, but who died and made you God? With all due respect, I've never seen you quoted on the back of a movie box endorsing a film.

But enough on that. Back to "Reservoir Dogs". You stated in your last message that much of the violence in the film was there out of pure sickness. This is not true in the fact that most of the violence is shoot 'em up violence that you find in most films today. The ear hacking scene, though, you may have a point, and I would like to have the chance to argue the other side. Mr. Blonde(Micheal Madsen's character) is a sick puppy. The other robbers acknowledge this and they hate him because of it. When Mr. Blonde slices up the cop and is about to burn him alive, the wounded uncover cop comes to and blows Mr. Blonde away. Good defeats evil.

Now, since you have such a great philosophical mind for movies and I, according to you, don't, then perhaps you would have looked deep enough into "Reservoir Dogs" to see that some of its underlying messages do parelell that of "Casino", a movie you love. First, in both films you have the idea of "Greed over Glory", in which people's greed eventually leads to their downfalls. Also, trust and betrayal are important themes of both movies. In "Reservoir Dogs", Mr. White and Mr. Orange become so close that when Orange is wounded, White feels obligated to look after him. Then when Orange reveals to White that he is in fact an uncover cop, White feels betrayed and kills Orange. And in "Casino" Joe Pesci betrays his boyhood friend De Niro by sleeping around with De Niro's wife, and by creating so much mischief he comprimises the casino. Pesci is also betrayed by his goons and beaten to death in the end. Greed and betrayal. Did you, ! the great judge of motion pictures, pick up on these?

Oh, and that comment you made about The Simpsons making fun of "Reservoir Dogs", that is called a parody. That's P-A-R-O-D-Y. A spoof. Usually this means they liked the film, or else they wouldn't have taken the time to do that.

Now, hopefully you can understand that there are two sides to every arguement, and that your opinion is not the only one that matters. As for what you wrote about posting our little discussion, thanks but no thanks. I mean, you can if you really feel the need to, but I really couldn't care less. In fact, this is probably the last time you'll here from me.

P.S.- You have a lot of spunk, too.

Dear Reservoir Dog lover, It is I, the one often referred to as HIM. Ben is right, Reservoir Dogs was not good. Your points are well taken none the less. You have a keen mind for movies. You are right about "Casino" being a good movie. You are right about Dogma being terrible, have faith, ye are not far from the tree. If I could only get you to come around on Reservoir Dogs, then you would see the glory of movie heaven and be admitted.

YES, generally people don't do a spoof on something unless they enjoyed it. However, Itchy and Scratchy is the bloodiest cartoon around and really depicts the reduced sensitivity to violence that America has. The fact that Itchy and Scratchy parody Reservoir Dogs only shows that "Dogs" is the new symbol of violence in America.

In "Dogs' Tarantino took violence to new heights and SICKNESS.

However, you are intelligent and well stated, which is possible despite the fact that, and this is a clincal word, you are "wrong." We still offer you admittance to "Movie Heaven." Buy a ticket, and make the check out to "God." Don't worry, I'll have no problems cashing it.

Please tell me when you have "seen the light."

Sincerely yours,
Vincent Van Gogh
